I know next to nothing about the actual hardware-level difference between CPUs and GPUs let alone the different components and specs of either and was tasked with estimating the cost of the following spec.
I’m pretty eager to read up on everything on my own, but at this point I’m only able to guess that 128GB is referring to RAM because it’s the “smallest number” or something. Pretty embarrassing.
I know that AMD Threadripper is a CPU and 2080Ti Asus are the GPUs, but it’d be nice to know what exactly makes these two work well together if anything.
I was wondering if somebody could tell me what each of those numbers is referring to or tell me how would you go about cost-decomposing something like that in general! Thank you very very much!
(Our lab is ultimately trying to close in on the right setup for processing cryo-EM data, bulk fp for all intents and purposes):
AMD threadripper 2950x 16 core, 128 GB, 2x M.2 SSDs (128 GB for OS and 2 TB for cryoSPARC cache). 1600 W ps.
And of course, 4x blower-type 2080Ti From Asus.
