I’ve had a few HDDs go bad on me in the last couple of years. I was hoping for some help with them if possible. I know about expert businesses out there, but am first looking for some advice to see if it’s possible to do anything myself, to at least narrow things down and determine how to proceed. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Seagate 1TB BarraCuda Internal Drive
-
was used as the internal hard drive for a laptop
-
as an internal HDD (the second for the laptop), the response started slowing down with startups and mouse clicks, and processing became increasingly slower
-
I did chkdsk and attempted repairs and the disk would spin for extremely long times
-
the disk has since been removed from the laptop and looked at on another laptop with an SATA chord connector chord
-
it is online and recognized by Disk Management and even says that the OS (F:) & New Volume (G:) are healthy, as are the recovery partitions
-
the SATA ID also shows on Device Manager, Devices & Printers and the system tray
-
G: & F: are also recognized by Windows Explorer, the folders and files can clearly be seen
-
the problem seems to be access, as when I try to tap on a file or folder to open it (or to access the information on the drive in any way), the computer gives an endless spin or severely freezes
Toshiba 4TB Canvio External/Portable HDD
-
the problem first started with drive becoming slower and less responsive
-
I was trying to remove the info as the drive was slowing but the drive pretty much halted to severe slowness
-
when I did a CHKDSK, it made the HDD worse as it started making clicking noises
-
now the drive can not be accessed and is repeatedly, rhythmically clicking with silence at times
-
it usually clicks 2-4 times, has silence for 1-2 seconds, then starts clicking again
-
when the disk has been connected for a while longer, the disk can click once and be silent for a few seconds, and then repeats
-
I can also hear the disk spinning regularly under the clicking sounds
-
it shows up on the system tray as EXTERNAL_USB
-
it shows up on Explorer as Local Disk (F:)
-
it shows up on Device Manager as Toshiba External_USB USB Device
-
it shows up on Devices & Printer as External USB
-
it is erratic in displaying on Disk Management: it has shown up as Healthy and RAW in the past, lately it does not display and can cause non-response (sometimes it can show up after a very long amount of time)
Seagate 5TB BarraCuda External/Portable HDD
-
I was trying to move data from this disk to another disk and it simply stopped moving the information, without any message on the screen, then I tried to move the remaining information again and the same happened
-
I removed the drive from its plastic case and connected to a computer with a SATA cable
-
now it simply makes a mild, noise like it’s about to start up for a few seconds then stops and silences when plugged or the HDD quietly spins to no end
-
it shows on Device Manager and Devices and Printers as SATA cable identification
-
but this HDD is not recognized by Disk Management or Explorer
-
previously it showed up on Disk Management as Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized with no visual information
Many, many thanks in advance.
