Symptoms: Laptop (HP 15-fd0000, 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1355U, Intel Iris Xe graphics) connected to an LG 42PC3RV-TJ plasma TV via HDMI.
Windows 11: picture displays correctly, but no HDMI audio device ever shows up in Sound settings — not muted, not disabled, simply not present. Device Manager (with “Show hidden devices” enabled) does show the expected Intel Display Audio stub entries, confirming the audio driver itself is installed correctly.
Same laptop, same cable, same HDMI port, booted into antiX Linux: sound works immediately (picture resolution was imperfect, but audio was fine).
This ruled out the usual suspects people reflexively blame: a faulty/old cable, an unsupported TV, or a missing driver — all of which tested fine.
