Microsoft word caption numbering

I have a document that is divided into numbered sections and an appendix.
The numbering scheme I have is:

1 Section title
...
3 Section title
   3.1 Subsection title
   3.2 Subsection title
Appendix A
Appendix B

I want all figures/tables to be captioned with the chapter number followed by a dash and the figure number, e.g.:

In the body: Table 3.1‑1, Table 3.1‑2, etc.
In the appendix: Table A‑1, Table B‑1, etc.

All the captions in the numbered sections work fine. But when I caption a table in Appendix A, I get Table 3.2-1 instead of Table A-1. How can I get the desired caption format in the appendices? I have word 2016
