As we know the MasterBootRecord starts with 440 Bytes of boot codes, from what I read, what they do is initiates the boot process and loads the operating system’s boot loader. But for a external hardrive which is used for file storage only and is completely not bootable, why is there still boot codes? I have a 1TB HP p900 SSD with MBR and a ext4 partition and a exFAT partition, all partition are for file storage only, and again they are no bootable, but why in the MBR raw bytes, there is still boot codes?
