Why does a certificate works in Firefox (with warning) but not in Chrome?

This is on a MacBook. When accessing a *.local domain in our company, the URL can be accessed in Firefox – but with a warning to Accept the Risk and Proceed. In Chrome however the message is simply This site can’t be reached - ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. At best the message seems inaccurate so there’s probably a Chrome internal network setting.

Also the IP address is a 172.* IP so it’s only accessible on VPN.

Note: I have downloaded my company’s CA chain and installed/trusted, restarted etc… and that doesn’t work.
