Why doesn’t my ASUS keyboard respond to 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, p, backspace, right arrow keys after waking up from hibernation? [closed]

Actually trying to respond to similar post, same issue on ASUS
x55c (1 2 3 4 7 8 9 p and backspace not working)… but not enough “reputation”/new user…

Anyway…couple months ago developed same keyboard issue on ASUS Flow x16 (GV601VU) where 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, p, backspace, right arrow keys DO NOT work after I waking laptop from hibernation (EXTREMELY DEBILITATING PROBLEM!)

Did all sorts of software/driver/bios/troubleshooting to no avail.

Monitoring/trialing several weeks –> noticed relationship with USB-C power + windows power mode setting. Only way to resolve was to plug in PD/USB-C power and change windows power setting to what it previously was when the laptop was plugged in and keyboard working. Meaning, I could wake from hibernation while on AC or USB-C power and the keyboard worked fine, but whenever waking from hibernation on battery the keyboard would not work. Cycling all sorts of settings/power/driver reinstalls/etc did not work. Ultimately needed to plug in USB-C power (not AC power, only USB-C) and return windows power setting to what it was prior to hibernating for just a few seconds…then keyboard would work fine on battery. But this is obviously not sustainable…always needed a power source around.

Temporary work-around (worked most of time) was, PRIOR to hibernating, to unplug power (AC or USB-C) and set the power setting to silent, then (and only then) hibernate the laptop. Then usually when waking from hibernation from battery keyboard would work…but interestingly there would be a delay, and always had to first press ‘p’ key to get the 12346789 backspace keys to start working. They would also intermittently stop working again while actively using the laptop on battery.

ANYWAY –> SOLVED PROBLEM –> According to ASUS need to perform an EC Chip Reset

EC motherboard chip controls various hardware and power management functions

  1. Unplug any/all power sources AND peripheral devices
  2. Shutdown computer
  3. Press and hold the power button for 40 SECONDS (I did 60…computer turns on initially but continue to hold and will shut off…continue to hold for full 40 sec or more)
  4. Plug power back in (either USB or AC is okay)
  5. Then Boot/power up the laptop

FULLY RESOLVED ISSUE –> tested few times (i.e. wake hibernation on battery at different power settings) and has been consistently working well.
