Why does my HDD keep spinning and seeking when I power off the computer?
I have two identical usb HDDs, namely the 1Tb model WD Elements 2621. And both were connected to the usb-ports of my Lenovo T480.
If I shut down my laptop, one of the usb HDDs acts differently than the other. It stays on. Stays spinning. And is seeking and making noises like when it’s doing a transfer of many small files. The patterns in the noises change. It’s light is on but not blinking. It would blink if the OS was doing I/O to it.
The other WD Elements 2621 does nothing at all that I can notice.
