I have scripts that connect from RHEL 10 server to remote Windows hosts using “xfreerdp” (various Windows versions ranging from Windows 2003 to Windows 11 – described behavior is the same for all of them) and perform some commands on these boxes using “xdotool”.
The problem is, “xdotool key backslash” (or equivalent “xdotool key 0x5c”) does not cause the backslash to appear on Windows. Pressing an actual backslash key on the keyboard does.
I am using “/kbd:layout:0x00000409” parameter to xfreerdp to particularly force US keyboard layout (although without this parameter the issue is the same).
I tried inserting a delay or sending some “dummy” key before “xdotool key backslash”, it does not help.
What can be the problem and how to solve it?
